UnLtd Event 2011

The largest mobile working conference in the North of England, UnLTD 2011 on 17th November, heralded the arrival of the new Nokia Lumia Windows Phone handset.  The conference was a full day which gave invaluable advice in how to shape up for the new agile working practices of the future. Delegates saw how companies have moved to new ways of working – saving substantial costs and making their businesses faster, leaner and smarter.

Industry experts from Vodafone and Microsoft demonstrated how to deploy robust “cloud” computing solutions. They showed how changing technologies mean that businesses can work in new ways. For example, a business no longer needs to buy an expensive server but can store all of their data securely online in the cloud.

We believe that investing in these kind of infrastructures are going to be some of the biggest investment decisions you make over the next twelve months.

Oliver Lofthouse Oliver Lofthouse, Principal Sale Manager (B2B) for Vodafone

Oliver gave the audience a taste of the way Vodafone had radically altered their own way of working.  Liberating staff to work from anywhere.  An amazing story about making people more available to clients and reducing substantially the cost base of the business.

Paul Wright Paul Wright, Vodafone UC & One Net Specialist

Paul followed Oliver’s address by demonstrating the vodfaone one net system.  The seamless integration of mobile and fixed brought gasps from the assembled throng.  A simple system that means you never miss a call.

Paul Norford Paul Norford, Markets Products Manager, UK Local Sales Unit, Nokia

Paul showcased the brand new Windows Phone 7 device from Nokia, The Lumia 800, and all its features and benefits it has to offer to businesses.  He did also cover the cooler functions on this the latest phone released by the biggest handset manufacturer in the World.

James Akrigg James Akrigg, Head of Technology for Partners at Microsoft

James was able to drop in the final technology piece fo the day.  Combining One Net with Windows Phone and Microsoft 365.  He was able to demostrate how an effective cloud service could mean we took our office with us wherever we went.

Andy Burton Andy Burton, Operations Director for Eliesha training

Andy spoke about the different HR and training issues you get when working remotely and how to overcome them.  He neatly illustrated that working away from the office did not necessarily mean “no management” and armed delegates with a framework to transition workers through these types of changes.

David Woodhead David Woodhead, Senior Vice President of innovation and transformation of Astadia

David took the stage and spoke of two main things.  Firstly how he is able to run a 45 man business without offices and servers.  This is tale with a human side – he has been able to assemble an exceptional team who are on call from wherever they are precisely because he supports mobile working.  David then covered the power of social media and how companies whould be using their data to better effect.  He raised a simple and strong question – how long until a CEO gets sacked because of twitter comments?

Richard Farleigh Richard Farleigh

Star of Dragons’ Den, serial entrepreneur and self-confessed ‘deal-junkie’, Richard Farleigh headed up UnLtd 2011 as the keynote speaker.  Richard spoke of his childhood, his career and his experiences of developing small companies.
