iOS 5
The newest operating system for Apple devices is to be rolled out on the 12th October. iOS 5 will be released for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1 + 2, and iPod touch (3rd and 4th Generation). It’s a massive update with over 200 fantastic features.
iMessage
Any user running iOS 5 will have free access to iMessage, Apple’s free text service (think BBM or What’s app). It’s unlimited between any apple device using iOS 5, send photos, videos, and locations, even contacts for free within a Wi-Fi or 3G network area. Delivery reports are included, even the ability to see the message being written. Best of all the messages will update across all of your sync’d Apple devices.
Notification Centre
Notification centre will get rid of some of the interrupting features of your phone. Rather than a new email or message interrupting whatever you are in the middle of doing in the middle of the screen, it will now slide down from the top of the screen, and disappear to the Notification centre, where all your emails, updates, missed calls, reminders are held. Apple call it ‘your news feed’ as you update whatever information you would like to receive, even stock updates or weather widgets.
Reminders
Reminders will sync with all your devices, to add to-do lists, even location based reminders, so say you need to remember to call your wife on your way to the Golf Club, set a reminder and the handset will remind you as you leave work. This will also sync Microsoft Outlook or iCal.
Pc Free
With iOS 5 Apple devices are active straight out of the box. Updates can be downloaded straight to the device; a computer isn’t needed to use the device. You can even backup and restore the device automatically using iCloud.
iOS 5 makes it even easier to tweet from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Sign in once in Settings, and suddenly you can tweet directly from Safari, Photos, Camera, YouTube, or Maps. Want to mention or @reply to a friend? The Contacts app applies your friends’ Twitter usernames and profile pictures. So you can start typing a name and iOS 5 does the rest. You can even add a location to any tweet, no matter which app you’re tweeting from.
Newsstand
iOS 5 organizes your magazine and newspaper app subscriptions in Newsstand: a folder that lets you access your favorite publications quickly and easily. There’s also a new place on the App Store just for newspaper and magazine subscriptions. And you can get to it straight from Newsstand. New purchases go directly to your Newsstand folder. Then, as new issues become available, Newsstand automatically updates them in the background, complete with the latest covers.
Other improvements on the system vary from an improved safari and email system to better camera functionality.
The new iOS 5 will be an essential download for apple devices from the 12th of October.
