BlackBerry 10 smartphones delayed until late next year

BlackBerry 10 smartphones will be delayed until late next year due to profits been down 71%

Net income at Research In Motion (RIM) fell 71 per cent year-on-year in the quarter ending November 26, from £587 million to £171 million.

The fall was in part due to the firm taking a £230 million charge on unsold stock of its PlayBook tablet.

Revenues fell slightly from £3.5 billion in Q3 of 2010 to £3.2 billion in the quarter, and the firm’s gross margin fell to 27.3 per cent during the quarter, compared to 43.6 per cent in the same quarter a year ago. BlackBerry expected to sell between 11 and 12 million handsets in the current quarter, down from 14 million in the same quarter a year ago.

Poor results were followed by further bad news from the firm, as it announced that its new range of BlackBerry 10 smartphones will be delayed until late 2012.

RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis (pictured) said that the firm would not be able to release the new devices in Q1 next year because the advanced chips they use will not be available until mid-2012.

The BlackBerry 10 smartphones will run software based on the QNX platform used on the PlayBook.

School report time………..

The year is rapidly drawing to a close here at CCS and we are running around making sure everyone is set up for the Xmas period.  It is even our party tonight – we are off to the Rib Room at the Ramside for some seriously juicy steaks.  We cannot wait.

Its hard to believe it has been a year – and what a year.

Hosting the biggest event in our history – some 300 delegates – at what has turned out to be the biggest unified comms event in the UK has to be up there as a real highlight.  Our team here did us all proud.  If Carlsberg did unified comms conferences this would be what it would be like.  Thanks to everyone that attended.  We are still working our way round you all discussing how MS365 can help your business.

We have also had some amazing new client wins.  Not wanting to boast but every single one of you will eat something produced by the company that was our biggest win.  They supply every supermarket in the UK and you have no idea how much fun we have had working with their IT team.  Roll on 2012 – they are going to see why they made such a great decision buying into us – because the proof is in the eating.  We don’t just do mobile we do CCS mobiles.

The thing is they were not alone making this decision – every month has seen notable new clients join and welcome to you all.

So at the end of term – what does the report card say?

Not a perfect pupil – fair from it – but always there to take on a challenge.  Never shy and never unwilling to do the hard work required to succeed.  Should look forward to next term knowing they can achieve great results of the bedrock of an excellent year.  Should try to calm down a bit and perhaps they could remember the school motto – “Docendo discimus” when dealing with others.

Making Waves with UnLTD Communications

Dean took to the waves today to help show off Unified communications just before our UnLTD2011 Event.

The wind and waves did not make this a easy task! Dean, with the help of his Rowing Club Tyne United helped show how Microsoft Office 365, Vodafone One Net and your mobile phone can ensure you can run your business whenever, wherever you want or need to!

The event, which takes place at the Hilton in Gateshead on the 17th November will raise awareness of the possibilities available to small business, from cloud technology to unified solutions. Nokia will be showing their game changing Lumia 800, Microsoft will show Office 365 and Vodafone will be talking about their One Net business solution. We are looking forward to seeing everyone there, but don’t think we will be heading there the same way as Dean attempted today!

Big thanks to Tyne United Rowing club for helping us set this up.

Nokia Lumia 800

We are rather excited about the Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 handsets. It really seems the WP7 has found its footing on the new Nokia devices, and we thought we should share some of the new features that we are excited for.

Nokia Music

XBOX LIVE

Along with the usual XBOX Live compatability, when the handset syncs with your home console, the device turns into another beast.

Nokia Maps & Nokia Drive

Quite possibly the best Sat Nav and mapping system we have ever used, WP7 has improved connectivity ease of use.

We can’t wait to try the phone with everyone at the UnLTD2011 Event on the 17th November.
